Happy snowy spring to one and all from Starlight. Has been a lovely busy time here with guests from Germany, Denmark, England, Ireland, and two great California colleges among California natives and others.

There’s been lots of skiing, reading, connecting, conversing, writing, eating, cycling, hot-tubbing, walking, hiking, piano, guitar… & napping.

Guest & blogger, Lene.

Our dear San Francisco Larry provided several days of the highest foam lattes I’ve ever seen. One is invited to almost float along the top as an angel baby on a cloud. Ok, just check out the photo.

Berkeley Bev treated us to her unwaivering enthusiam as well as what she calls her “ practicing” of a complex Schubert Sonata. We were also treated to a great Saturday concert with jazz composer David Blais, presently of Santa Cruz.

And check what turning off the power for an hour looks like on 60 For The Planet. Admittedly, there was a bit of discussion of what was and was not cheating as our doubles came out to join us for dinner. We concluded that battery use was probably a cheat but by consensus allowable for the photo proving we had observed! Ou, well. So, we’re going to try to make it a habit: 8:00 – 9:00pm – we’ll be off grid.

Another tradition we’ve started Spring 2010 is to view all three of the Tolkien Ring movies beginning Good Friday, concluding on Easter night. Young and old all found it inspiring and uplifting.

Our athlete-in-residence, Miyshael is making steady progress on his new ski system which he’ll be demonstrating soon. Meanwhile, the one-wheel skating continues on the Carson River loop for anyone wishing to join in this beautiful and challenging sport.

Myself, I’m being tempted by little visits to Grover Hot Springs for some serious mineral soak and sunbathing with the very British, Lee quoting favorite poets and author’s in Queen’s English. In her 20’s Lee turned down a job as lady in waiting to Princess Margaret so we could have her in California. Her latest book, Tell Me The Names of Your Friends is now available on Amazon. It’s the story of her year of silence after a vocal surgery goes unexpectedly bad and she discovers that even being in the presence of speech for this condition causes excruciating pain. As others have said, she makes you laugh and cry in the same sentence. You’ll have to be really clever at getting here during her visits, though, as she is in great demand in South Pacific as spiritual advisor to top politicos and community activists.

COMING UP:

April/May discounts at the cabin.

Spring trainings for Death Riders, recreational cyclists, triathletes.

Still lots of snow at Joyce’s Hopevalleyutdoors.com and half-price ski sales.

We’ll have news on fly-fishing, full moon hikes and writer’s workshops in the next post.

BIG NEWS:

The Road House is now available for guests –  call me for details and see the Road House page for pictures!

And for our film enthusiasts: Sevencees Film Production and FiveToEight have linked Starlight to Hollywood, Vancouver and Denmark.   The lodge has become an international hub for over two dozen hatching projects ranging from female action drama to documentary to art house noir and jazz musical, and the Columbia River/Sin Aikst project which has been my heart’s desire since I got involved a few years ago.

More to come. Send your pictures and favorite recipes.

Peace, love and hugs,

Dianna

Welcome

December 11, 2009

to Starlight’s latest addition…the first edition of Starlight Gazette created by guest and now friend, Lene Pels Jørgensen.

I had been wishing for a way to share the great things that happen here with guests and friends, such as our visit by momma bear and the three little bears. I’m not the best photo-to-email person but with an offer of help from an expert, Voila! a little newsletter which we will update as you and I feel inspired.

The idea is for you to share your photos, stories and musings from or about your experiences here and I’ll share a few of mine.

A kind of community has been developing around Starlight and Kyle’s Cabin. I invite you to join me in fostering our connections by participating in Starlight Gazette.
